We can offer a complete IRSE assessment service for the following categories:
Covers installing and maintaining at least one, (two if one is mechanical), of the following types of points: Mechanical, Electrical, Pneumatic, or Hydraulic and other associated equipment. Capable of performing basic electrical integrity checks, to check the function and set-up of the installed detection components. Capable of setting up safe systems of work at all times.
An Assistant Signalling Installer will be capable of installing and wiring signalling equipment, under the direct supervision of a licensed signalling installer.
A Signalling Installation Operative on the operational railway will - be capable of installing and wiring signalling equipment, using measuring equipment, and carrying out installation integrity checks, such as wire counts and continuity checks. - be aware of the safety requirements of the live railway and when working adjacent to operational equipment. - understand the scope of work and keep within the limits of their authority. A clear distinction must be made between their own integrity checks and subsequent functional testing. - ensure that the site is left safe and the activities are handed over as appropriate after completing an installation task.
A Signalling Installation Technician will be capable of understanding and interpreting installation documentation / diagrams. They will: - work independently to prioritise tasks and make decisions. - have a working knowledge of the systems they work on and how they interface with other systems and equipment on the operational railway. - use tools and test equipment correctly to install and wire signalling equipment and systems, remove and replace signalling components as part of a renewal activity, and carry out installation integrity checks, such as wire counts and continuity checks. - be aware of the risks that the work may have on the operational railway and prioritise your work to take into account operational, site and environmental conditions - ensure that the correct resources are available for the tasks and that adequate arrangements are made to hand over work at the end of shift resolving any problems with the installation work within the limits of their authority.
Covers the role of undertaking tests under direction on signalling components and equipment in accordance with the test specifications and plans.
Covers the role of maintaining and rectifying signalling or control systems equipment under the direction of a licensed maintainer.
Signalling Maintainers will be capable of maintaining or rectifying signalling systems and equipment, completing integrity checks on their own work, instigating testing where necessary and identifying where independent testing is required.
Signalling Maintenance Testers will be responsible for undertaking the testing activities in support of the maintenance of operational signalling equipment. Whilst undertaking testing activities they will:
Identify the testing requirements
Undertake defined tests
Identify where systems and equipments are not to specification
Provide suitable and sufficient evidence to confirm that the renewed and repaired signalling equipment is fit for entry into service
Combined Signalling Maintainers & Fault Finders will be capable of maintaining or rectifying signalling systems and equipment, completing integrity checks on their own work, instigating testing where necessary and identifying where independent testing is required. They will be capable of locating and diagnosing faults in signalling systems and equipment where the preservation of evidence is not necessarily required. The type and range of problems and faults cover both simple and complex faults due to environmental factors, ageing, human error, inherent design problems and may be either right side or wrong side failures.
Covers organising and controlling work activities of a team or teams; ensuring that sufficient resources are available and contributing to technical leadership on engineering activities; and also responsible for the work of the team and the handover to others.
The holding of the Signalling Installer licence is a pre-requisite for this licence for leaders of installation teams.
