SMTH Module d - Cable Function Testing

Number of Delegates: 3

Duration: 1 day

Location: Horsley Cross

Who should attend

This course is designed for SMTH Testers who already hold the Core Competence at Level 2 or above and wish to expand their testing capability to include Cable Function Testing. It is also suitable for delegates who have been assessed as not yet competent in Cable Function Testing and wish to gain the competence.

Delegates must provide evidence of holding the Core Competence before booking this course.

Infinity Training and Assessing is an approved Network Rail SMTH training provider authorised to deliver this course.

Objectives

On successful completion of this course, delegates will be able to carry out the following under mentorship (Level 2):

  • Undertake cable function testing to SMTH Part 3, B04
  • Demonstrate how to plan a cable function test using relevant SMTH forms
  • Identify the first function, final function and controlling device/contacts
  • Identify stray voltages capable of falsely energising circuit functions
  • Complete cable function testing on line circuits and pole changing circuits (AC phase sensitive where required)

Learning approach

The course is conducted between 08:45 and 15:30. Delegates will take part in a combination of theory and practical sessions designed to help them achieve the required Level 2 competence. This is followed by theory and practical assessments, both of which must be successfully completed to be awarded Level 2.

Following successful completion of the course, mentorship is required trackside within the permitted Network Rail timescale guidelines. Once mentorship has been completed, delegates are expected to return to a Network Rail approved training centre for a further one-to-one assessment. On successful completion of this assessment, a Level 3 competence certificate will be issued, provided that the Core Competence has also been assessed at Level 3.

Pre-requisites

The delegate must hold SMTH Core at Level 2 or Level 3 and be able to provide evidence of this that meets Network Rail requirements in order to attend this training module.
