Who should attend

This course is designed for delegates who need to undertake installation, removal and/or testing of the AWS,

Objectives

The objectives of this course:

  • To provide an understanding of the principles of low and high powered AWS magnets used on the Network Rail Infrastructure
  • For delegates to be capable of the removal and refitting of AWS magnets on different types of sleepers
  • To provide an understanding of the tools and test equipment required to remove, refit and test an AWS magnet back into service
  • For delegates to be able to maintain the AWS magnet to the SMS and complete the relevant record cards
  • For those delegates who have SMTH or SWTH, to be able to test the AWS magnets to the relevant test plans and complete relevant test documentation and record cards

Learning approach

40% classroom based with PowerPoint, pro-active discussions, diagrams and drawings

60% practical - removal, refitting and testing an AWS magnet and completing relevant record cards and logs

Pre-requisites

Ideally delegates will have a basic understanding of the railway industry and be able to read location diagrams
