Who should attend

This course is designed for experienced signalling engineers who maintain and fault find on Relay Interlockings. It is a progressional route after attending BS1/BS2 or equivalent.

Objectives

On successful completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Identify different types of control panels currently in use on Railway Infrastructure.
  • Interpret the meaning of all symbols used on a conventional signalling panel.
  • Explain the function of all buttons and switches on a conventional signalling panel.
  • Understand what the panel is telling you, in other words, reading indications.
  • Explain ground frame controls and indications.
  • Explain classes of routes.
  • Understand how to read a basic Control Table

Delegates will also cover:

  • Safety in replacement of latched relays
  • Common faults and their symptoms
  • Basic fault finding techniques and repairs

Learning approach

60% classroom based with PowerPoint presentations and scenarios

40% Practical fault finding and repairs

Theory and practical assessments will be undertaken to verify the delegates’ understanding and knowledge

Pre-requisites

Delegates must have BS1/BS2 or equivalent and have good diagram reading skills and signalling knowledge to attend.
