Fault Finding and Diagram Techniques

Who should attend

The course has been designed for delegates who already have knowledge and experience within the railway signalling industry but want to improve their diagram reading and fault finding skills.

Objectives

On successful completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand more complex circuitry including points circuits.
  • Follow relay interlocking circuits/diagrams through from the panel to the working equipment.
  • Understand the principles of fault finding and be able to find faults by themselves using good practices.
  • Read the diagram and follow the fault finding process, guiding an assistant to the fault destination.
  • Understand own limitations rectifying the fault when found.
  • Explain the signing out process and technician's responsibility of keeping the signaller up to date during the fault finding process.

Learning approach

30% classroom based using a PowerPoint presention, diagrams and scenarios.

70% practical sessions including fault finding demonstrations, hands on fault finding and reading diagrams to follow the process through.

Pre-requisites

Ideally the candidate has BS1/BS2 or equivalent and good trackside knowledge prior to attending this training course.
