Who should attend

This course is suitable for delegates who wish to obtain a basic level of knowledge on how to remove/refit any lineside telephones and joint a telecoms cable.

Objectives

On successful completion of this course delegates will have covered the following areas:

  • General introduction to railway telecommunication
  • Have an understanding of relevant telecoms handbooks including SMS and SMTH
  • Various cables used on the Network Rail infrastructure
  • How to remove and refit a telecoms cable from a Signal Post Telephone and other lineside telephones
  • How to test or assist an SMTH tester to confirm correct operation of the telephone

Learning approach

60% classroom based with PowerPoint and visual aids

Practical sessions including jointing of telecoms cables and terminating telecoms cable in a signal post telephone.

Theory and practical assessments will be undertaken to check the delegates' understanding and a certificate will be issued on successful completion of the course.

Pre-requisites

Good installation background, SMTH for those who wish to test in the equipment.
