Who should attend

The course is designed for first line faulting and maintenance staff who already have a good working knowledge of railway signalling. 

Objectives

On successful completion of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the principles and operation of a Reed track circuit
  • Understand the various components used in Reed track circuits
  • Understand the unique positioning and wiring of Reed track circuits
  • Complete maintenance and testing of Reed track circuits as stated in the SMS
  • Fault find basic right side failures and understand how to rectify them
  • Remove and replace any Reed track circuit component
  • Complete a maintenance record card correctly and check to relevant specification

Learning approach

30% classroom based theory with active discussions, scenarios and drawings

70% practical sessions including trainer demonstrations and hands on testing and fault finding

Theory and practical assessments are carried out to verify the delegate understanding

Delegates must have a good understanding of railway signalling principles and have completed a Basic Signalling One course or equivalent.
