AC Track Circuits

Number of Delegates: 8

Duration: 4 days

Location: Horsley Cross

Who should attend

Delegates who require an understanding of AC double rail and single rail Vane type track circuits.

Objectives

By the end of this course successful delegates will be able to:

  • Identify the main components of 50 Hz AC track circuits and their different configurations
  • Understand the principles of double rail and single rail AC  track circuits
  • Understand the principles of a Vane type relay
  • Identify bonding plan symbols for AC track circuits
  • Replace specific items of 50Hz AC track circuit equipment
  • Be capable of locating a basic fault and rectifying the fault
  • Replace a specified item of the 50 Hz AC track circuit equipment
  • Perform routine servicing of 50Hz AC track circuits in accordance with the current SMS and complete the relevant documentation
  • Use test equipment specific to 50Hz AC including the phase angle meter
  • Undertake track circuit testing as guided by Network Rail instructions
  • Identify Infrastructure conditions that may affect correct operation of 50Hz AC track circuits

Learning approach

40% classroom-based including PowerPoint presentations, proactive discussions, scenarios and diagrams/drawings.

60% practical-based on live AC single and double rail track circuits including taking readings from Vane type relays.

Theory and practical assessments will be undertaken to check the delegates' understanding and a certificate will be issued on successful completion of the course.

Pre-requisites
