Who should attend

This course is designed for delegates who have little or no knowledge of axle counters.

Objectives

On successful completion of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the axle counter system
  • Specify detection points on a scheme plan and location plan
  • Understand the basic principles of axle counter installation
  • Understand the main components of the axle counter system
  • Describe the principles of section reset and restore
  • Specify detection points and evaluator circuitry on relevant location/REB drawings
  • Demonstrate an understanding on known faults that may occur trackside

Learning approach

70% classroom based theory using PowerPoint presentations, scenarios and pro-active discussion

30% practical sessions including hands-on removal and re-fitting of the axle counter heads

A theory and practical assessment is carried out to check the delegates’ understanding.

Pre-requisites

An understanding of general railway signalling principles is required and it is recommended that delegates should have attended a Basic Signalling One course prior to attending this course.
