Basic Signalling One

Who should attend

Delegates who need to know the basics of Railway Signalling engineering and have little or no prior knowledge.

Objectives

On successful completion of the training course the delegates will be able to:

  • Explain the different types of signals used on the railway
  • Demonstrate an understanding in methods of train detection
  • Identify symbols and nomenclature of signalling diagrams including loc diagrams, track plans and scheme plans
  • Explain different types of interlockings and identify different relay characteristics

What we cover:

  • Development of railway signalling 
  • Relays - general overview
  • Circuit and plan symbols and railway signalling nomenclature
  • The DC track circuit including basic testing 
  • Colour light signals including testing
  • AWS and TPWS including basic testing
  • The block basic principles
  • Power supplies - overview

In addition to the above, delegates test signal heads, AWS/TPWS, DC track circuits and a variety of relays and complete record cards as evidence of their work.

  • Basic railway understanding
  • PTS would be an advantage
